-SOLD- A Swedish Gustavian Period Cupboard in Original Paint from Hälsingland, Circa 1800

This spectacular cupboard in two parts has all original paint, including the interior. It has an unusual, and amply sized open central shelf for serving and display. The entire cupboard is outlined by a carved leaf motif repeated on the front and sides. The leaves likely belong to the mountain-ash, known as the “rönn” tree to the Swedes. The Rönn tree has long been considered sacred in Sweden, and was called “Tors hjälp” “Thor’s help” as the tree is considered to have saved Thor and Loki from drowning in a river. A frieze of dentil molding accents the top.
