-SOLD- A Swedish Original Darlana Painting on Paper Attributed to Hjelt Per Persson, Leksand 1821-1886

This figurative folk-art painting is typical of the work of Hjelt per Persson who was one of the most important artists working in Leksand in the province of Darlana in the 19th century. The painting is of a kurbits: a symbol of vegetal fertility based on a gourd or pumpkin of biblical legend. In this painting you can see the kurbit plant with gourds, leaves and flowers, which has become the symbol of the paintings from Dalarna. This particular example is striking because of the beautiful blue in the flowers and the border. The painting has been preserved by laying it down on a canvas to add strength and stability.
