This extraordinary bowl was hand carved from one large tree, probably during the long dark hours of the Swedish winter. When you look closely you can still see the circles of the original trunk. It likely comes from the north of Sweden and was used to store cured meats. There are massive straps of iron at each end reinforcing the bowl where the wood has separated. It still retains the original pale Swedish blue paint. It is an important piece of folk art with many uses today.
