Dawn Hill Antiques was founded by John and Paulette Peden over twenty years ago when the store opened in the village of New Preston, CT. According to a recent magazine article, “The store with its pale Swedish décor looks like a scene from an Ingemar Bergman movie with exquisite furniture and clocks in cool Gustavian shades of white and grey. “
Paulette Peden, whose business career has always focused on creative work , was first drawn to Swedish antiques when she fell in love with a Swedish mora clock and was charmed by the beautiful patina and feminine design. This started her on a quest for the best examples of, not only Swedish furniture but a dedication to finding period pieces with the original paint, construction and surface details.
John Peden, a photographer of people, gardens and interiors, expanded the business to encompass garden antiques, antique lighting, vintage musical instruments, and quirky objects acquired on the couples frequent trips to Europe. His photographer’s eye aids in the selection of truly striking merchandise.
Paulette Peden is on the board of directors of the Antiques Council, an international group of antiques dealers dedicated to educating the public about antiques and maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity in the merchandise its members offer.
