A Norwegian Rococo Tea Table with Exquisite Carving in Original Paint C 1760

This charming tray table retains traces of the old blue – green original paint. The beautifully curving legs, typical of the Rococo style, are affluently carved with a level of detail rarely seen. This table would have been made for a quite wealthy client. Blue and green paint was the most expensive of pigments in the 18th century. The apron is decorated on all four sides and is more detailed in its carving than the legs, featuring a shell motif with cut outs on the center of the long sides. The delicate paw feet add charm and a feeling of life to the table. The surface of the tray top has had a minor repair.
