A Swedish Folk Art Hat Box in Original Blue and Coral Paint, Circa 1818

This charming box has a decorative sliding panel on the top with the initials “A N D” surrounded by flowers. It was used to store and protect the elaborate linen hats that were part of Swedish women’s folk dress. According to a handwritten note that was in the box, it belonged to a woman named Anna who lived on a farm located in Hälsingland in central Sweden. The striking blue original paint is contrasted with raised coral painted panels in decorative shapes. It has unique turned spool feet.
