-SOLD- A Swedish Rococo Period Secretary in Blue Paint, C. 1760

A stand out feature of this piece is the original blue paint on the two upper doors as well as the sides. The lower drawers and the front of the pull down desk have been retouched at a later date. The interior of the upper double door cabinet is painted a pale yellow. The top shelf is curved with indentations for glasses which is typical of the period. The hinges, although painted, are original. The interior of the desk portion has twelve compartments and drawers in a natural finish with pillar carvings on the two vertical drawers.
True craftsmanship shows in the carving of the pediment at the top. The pediment is composed of two half domes leading to a flat topped center with a carved keystone punctuating the middle. Detailed carving is seen throughout the pediment top, with sublime cove moulding on all sides. These stylings place it in the middle of the Swedish Rococo period.
