This “Svepask” or “Tine” box (as they are known in Scandinavia) was made circa 1850 in Sweden by taking a single thin piece of wood, heated and boiled, and then stretched over a mold and sewn together with wood fibers. Known also as a sweep-around-box, this Svepask features its original blue paint. The lid is adorned with a wonderful folk art painting of a Kurbits flower, a traditional motif in the decoration of painted objects from the Dalarna region of Sweden.
